CGA-IGC Presents: An In-Depth Exploration of Polyposis

This session blends lectures and interactive case discussions led by a multi-disciplinary group of CGA-IGC members regarding recognition and management of polyposis syndromes. Lectures illustrate endoscopic, surgical, and pharmacologic management of well-established polyposis syndromes, address extra-colonic presentations, and highlight newly-identified polyposis genes. Sessions will incorporate issues related to racial and ethnic variation, consideration of gender identity in medical management decisions, and the lived experience of having a hereditary polyposis syndrome. The symposium culminates with Hereditary Live, an interdisciplinary, case-based learning experience using clinical scenarios solicited from attendees.

Learning Objectives:

1. Summarize the interplay between endoscopic, surgical, and pharmacological management of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).
2. Assess the upper gastrointestinal manifestations of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and gastric adenocarcinoma and proximal polyposis of the stomach (GAPPS).
3. Identify new genes associated with adenomatous polyposis.
4. Evaluate the diagnosis and management of colonic polyposis of unknown etiology (CPUE).
5. Define the characteristics of therapy-associated polyposis.
6. Plan for assessment of individuals with hamartomatous polyps.
7. Identify the extra-intestinal manifestations of hamartomatous polyposis conditions.
8. Summarize the characteristics and diagnostic criteria for serrated polyposis syndrome.
9. Illustrate the perspective of a patient living with a hereditary polyposis syndrome.
10. Assess challenging cases associated with polyposis conditions.
