    Inequity and marginalization exist in our professional, societal, and personal surroundings. In many cases, we are unaware of the ways in which our biases affect our behaviors and actions that can perpetuate these inequities. This course will address the historical, societal, and neurological underpinnings of implicit bias formation. Course participants can expect to better identify the processes of bias formation and strategize methods to cope with, reduce, and transform biases in aid of inclusion for all, including patients and colleagues.

    This course aims to expand on the foundational knowledge of ethical concepts that genetic counselors explore in their training and aims to highlight the complex nuances that can arise when navigating ethical cases in the genetic counseling profession.

    This course is designed for practicing genetic counselors seeking more advanced training in how to navigate ethical issues that may arise across the lifespan. Through expert-led presentations and case-based discussions in prenatal/fertility, pediatric, adult, and end of life settings, participants will strengthen their ability to identify ethical scenarios and evaluate potential next steps to navigate them.

    2. Demonstrate and discuss different considerations for navigating ethical cases in the prenatal/fertility, pediatric, adult, and end of life setting.

    4. Consider how pre-implantation genetic testing ethical questions are understood through ethical principles.

    11. Apply a pluralistic ethical approach by identifying how different frameworks highlight distinct moral questions in genetic counseling scenarios.
