On Jan. 1, 2025, genetic counselors will have a brand-new CPT code! In 2005, the American Medical Association (AMA) approved the first GC-specific CPT code, 96040, allowing GCs to directly report and bill their clinical time. Two decades and many months of advocacy later, our new code will replace 96040.This codeââ¬â¢s updated billing format will have implications for GCs of all specialties. This session will provide practical knowledge of how and when to document the new code and how to report applicable time.
