This course focuses on providing guidance on leadership styles, leadership values, differences in power and management systems, career ladders, and conflict management. In addition, participants will gain insights into ways to enhance their leadership opportunities outside of traditional leadership roles, including mentoring, research, and business development.

2. Evaluate how these theories can be, and are, integrated into genetic counseling practice
3. Match these topics to opportunities within NSGC
4. Building upon skills and experience, discuss the development and utilization of leadership styles and skills that positively impact a team.
5. Identify strategies for leading and influencing without formal authority.
6. Define “feedback” and 3 foundational elements of effective feedback.
7. Evaluate personal values for application to discussion about leadership paths and opportunities.
8. Identify transferable skills between clinical and industry based genetic counseling positions, review a sample of possible career ladders and reflect on possible resources that could be leveraged to help grow within your career as a genetic counselor.
9. Formulate an individualized plan for non-positional leadership in research.
10. Apply strategies for preparing for and delivering effective feedback
Genetic Counselor CEUs:
The National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) has authorized the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) to offer up to .35 CEUs or 3.5 Category 1 contact hours for the activity, NSGC Leadership and Career Development Course. The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) will accept CEUs earned by participating in this program for the purposes of genetic counselor recertification.
